Principal Activities of the Maize Research Institute are: (1) development of maize hybrids, small grain cereals and soybean varieties of high-yielding potential and superb quality for different purposes and needs, (2) basic research aimed at facilitating applied and developmental programmes within breeding, seed production and maize, small grain cereals and soybean cultivation and utilisation, (3) development and the application of a ZP maize cropping and protection system for high and stable yield under diverse agro-ecological conditions, (4) ZP hybrids and varieties seed production, drying, processing, quality testing and storing, and (5) ZP hybrids and varieties seed marketing and trading.
